Lagos car rental market shifts as costs climb and demand evolves, says Muvment CEO
By Aboki Forex —
The Lagos car rental market is no longer just about chauffeur-driven cars. It has grown into a wide network that covers corporate travel, airport runs, tourism, self-drive options, and event transport.
But fleet owners are feeling the pressure. Vehicle prices are up. Financing costs are higher. Fuel and maintenance bills keep rising. Operators must keep cars on the road and earning money to stay afloat.
At the same time, demand is changing. More businesses now rent vehicles instead of buying and managing their own fleets. Operators are looking for new ways to boost usage and cut down on idle time in a crowded market.
Chinazom Arinze, Chief Executive Officer and Co-founder of Muvment, spoke with Nairametrics about how the Lagos car rental market is structured. He discussed the economics of fleet ownership, how vehicle utilisation is trending, pricing patterns, and which segments are seeing the strongest demand.
Arinze also touched on the profitability problems many operators face. He talked about the growing role of vehicle financing and the slow move toward digital tools in the industry. He explained why some car categories, especially premium ones, struggle to get steady bookings.
