Tin Can Island, Apapa Ports Rank Among World’s Most Improved

Nigeria’s Tin Can Island Port and Lagos Port Complex in Apapa have made the list of the world’s top 20 most improved container ports over the last five years. This is according to the World Bank’s Container Port Performance Index 2025.

The latest edition of the CPPI ranks Tin Can Island Port 10th globally for improvement between 2020 and 2025. Lagos Port Complex placed 12th. The index measures port performance using vessel turnaround time and operational efficiency.

The report, compiled by the World Bank and S&P Global Market Intelligence, showed Tin Can Island Port improved its score by 42 points. It moved from -68 in 2020 to -26 in 2025. Lagos Port recorded a 35-point gain, also reaching -26 in 2025 from -61 in 2020.

The ranking comes as Nigeria posts strong trade figures. The National Bureau of Statistics reported a trade surplus of N7.54 trillion in the first quarter of 2026.
