UBA secures NGX approval to publish H1 2026 results by September 30
By Aboki Forex —
United Bank for Africa (UBA) Plc has obtained approval from the Nigerian Exchange Limited (NGX) to extend the deadline for publishing its audited financial statements for the half-year ended June 30, 2026. The bank now has until September 30, 2026, to release its H1 2026 results, according to a disclosure dated August 21, 2026.
What the disclosure says
The disclosure was signed by the Group Company Secretary and Legal Counsel, Bili A. Odum. UBA said its Board of Directors approved the half-year financial statements at a meeting held on August 13, 2026. However, the results cannot be released to the market until the bank receives approval from its primary regulator.
“In this regard, the Bank has requested and obtained approval of the Nigerian Exchange Limited (NGX) for an extension of time to file the Results on or before September 30, 2026, subject to obtaining the requisite regulatory approvals for the publication of the Results,” the statement said.
The lender also reminded insiders that the closed period previously declared in respect of transactions involving the bank’s securities remains in force until 24 hours after the financial statements are published.
Other banks also got extensions
UBA is the latest among Nigeria’s leading financial institutions to secure additional time from the NGX to publish its audited half-year results. Guaranty Trust Holding Company (GTCO) recently obtained approval to extend its filing deadline for H1 2026 audited financial statements to September 30, 2026, pending regulatory clearance.
Zenith Bank also received a six-week extension, moving its reporting deadline from August 29 to October 9, 2026. Similarly, Access Holdings Plc secured an extension from the NGX, allowing it to file its half-year audited results by September 30, 2026, subject to approval from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
Under NGX rules, listed companies filing audited interim financial statements or awaiting approvals from primary regulators may apply for extensions beyond the standard 60-day reporting deadline after the end of the reporting period.
What this means for UBA
The extension comes as UBA continues to navigate a mixed earnings performance in 2026. The banking group reported a profit before tax of N160.66 billion in the first quarter of 2026, representing a 21.35% decline from N204.26 billion recorded in the corresponding period of 2025.
Despite the drop in profitability, gross earnings rose by 4.86% year-on-year to N801.42 billion, supported by growth in both interest income and non-interest revenue streams. The bank remains one of Africa’s largest financial institutions, with operations across 20 African countries and an expanding presence in key international financial centres.
For investors, the delay means the market will have to wait a little longer for clarity on the bank’s half-year performance. It also signals that regulatory approvals, not operational issues, are now the main factor shaping the release of audited banking results in Nigeria.
