SERAP Sues NNPCL Over N5.9 Billion Rebranding Spend

By

The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project has taken the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited to court. SERAP wants the Federal High Court in Abuja to force NNPCL to explain how it spent N5.9 billion on changing from NNPC to NNPCL.

The lawsuit was filed by lawyers Oluwakemi Agunbiade, Kehinde Oyewumi and Andrew Nwankwo. SERAP disclosed the legal action in a statement on Tuesday.

The case comes one month after SERAP asked President Bola Tinubu to order a probe into the same N5.9 billion rebranding expense.

What SERAP Wants From The Court

The organisation is asking the judge to compel NNPCL to give a full breakdown of the N5.9 billion. This includes details of all transactions, the contractors paid, and how the money was used in the rebranding exercise.

SERAP also wants an order forcing the company to name the officials involved in approving and managing the spending.
