NIM seeks EFCC, other agencies' collaboration to fight corruption, holds 65th conference in Lagos

The Nigerian Institute of Management (NIM) Chartered has called for inter-agency and multi-stakeholders' collaboration to tackle corruption in Nigeria. The call came at a press conference on Friday ahead of the Institute's 65th annual national management conference (ANMC).

Abimbola Ayuba, President and Chairman of Council, NIM, said the Institute is ready to work with anti-corruption bodies. "We want to ask organisations like EFCC, ICTC, and all those organisations that chase people that are eating nation's money. Let them come, we will show them the way," Ayuba said.

According to Ayuba, corruption is endemic in Nigeria, and efforts have been made to curb it over the years. He added that the NIM code of conduct offers practical steps in solving the problem. "It's a thing of the mind," he said.

"The Institute will continue its efforts of improving management practices both at the micro corporate level as well as at the macro governmental level," Ayuba said.

Sapphire jubilee edition

This year's conference theme is 'Sixty-Five Years of Management Excellence: Strengthening Institutional Governance in Nigeria.' Ayuba said the 2026 edition is the sapphire jubilee and coincides with the 65th anniversary of the Institute.

"We're looking forward into the next 65 years to see how we can continue to shape management practice to help institutional governance," he said.

The conference will hold from Sunday, September 13 to Tuesday, September 15 at Tafawa Balewa Square, Lagos. Dakuku Peterside, a former DG/CEO of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) and fellow of NIM, will serve as the main theme speaker.

Management across sectors

Ayuba said the Institute's function cuts across diverse disciplines and sectors of the economy. "Nothing can succeed without effective and efficient management of manpower, human resources, financial resources, and technical resources," he said.

The annual national management conference is the flagship of the Institute's many activities and programmes. It provides a platform to address burning management issues of national importance, with a view to arriving at solutions which are further made available to all key stakeholders.

Sixty-five years of gains

Taiwo Ganiyat Olusesi, registrar and chief executive of NIM Chartered, said the Institute has made its mark in the last 65 years. "In the past 65 years, the Institute has made a lot of gains in the quest to bequeath professional managers who have been driving professional management practice to the nation," Olusesi said.
