UN Appoints Nigerian Ahunna Eziakonwa as Special Adviser on Africa

The United Nations Secretary-General, António Guterres, has appointed Nigerian development expert Ahunna Eziakonwa as the new Special Adviser on Africa.
The UN announced the appointment in a statement on Friday. Eziakonwa takes over from Cristina Duarte of Cabo Verde. Guterres thanked Duarte for her service.
Eziakonwa brings nearly 30 years of leadership experience within the UN to the role. She currently serves as Assistant Secretary-General, Assistant Administrator and Director of the Regional Bureau for Africa at the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
In that position, she oversees UNDP's development work across 46 African countries. She helps governments advance the UN's Agenda 2030 and Sustainable Development Goals, as well as the African Union's Agenda 2063.
She has held the role since 2018 and has shaped UNDP's strategy for economic transformation on the continent.
