Naira records first gain in five days at official market

The Naira appreciated against the dollar on Tuesday at the official foreign exchange market. It was the first gain in five days.

Data from the Central Bank of Nigeria showed the Naira closed at N1,379.68 per dollar. That was up from N1,383.63 on Monday. The currency gained N3.95 on a day-to-day basis.

This is the first time the Naira has firmed up since June 22, 2026. On that day, the exchange rate stood at N1,369.11 per dollar.

At the black market, the Naira stayed flat at N1,395 per dollar on Tuesday. That was the same rate traded on Monday.

The mixed performance across official and parallel markets comes as Nigeria's external reserves held steady at $51.43 billion as of Monday, June 29, 2026.

On Monday, the Naira had extended its losing streak for the fifth straight day at the official window.
