Naira Slips Again at Official Market, Holds Steady at Black Market

The naira weakened against the dollar on Thursday at the official foreign exchange market. This is the third straight day of depreciation this week.

Data from the Central Bank of Nigeria showed the naira closed at N1,363.30 per dollar on Thursday. That is down from N1,360.07 recorded on Wednesday. The currency lost N3.23 on a day to day basis.

At the black market, the naira remained unchanged at N1,400 per dollar. This is the same rate traded on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, Nigeria's foreign reserves continued to rise. They hit $50.96 billion as of June 17, 2026. Except for Monday, the exchange rate has depreciated against the dollar at the official market all week.
