Naira Opens Week Stronger at Official and Black Markets

The naira appreciated against the dollar on Monday at both the official and parallel foreign exchange markets, starting the week on a positive note.

Data from the Central Bank of Nigeria showed the naira strengthened to N1,374.91 per dollar, up from N1,375.46 traded last Friday. This represents a slight gain of 0.53 kobo.

At the black market, the naira rose by N5 to N1,395 per dollar during the same period.

Nigeria’s foreign reserves remained unchanged at $48.98 billion as of May 22, 2026, according to the apex bank.

The naira had dropped against the dollar on Friday last week, ending the previous week on a negative note.
