Dangote Refinery Hits Full Capacity, Pushes Diesel and Jet Fuel to Europe

By

Nigeria’s Dangote refinery is now running at full capacity and prioritising diesel and jet fuel exports to Europe to take advantage of high profit margins. The plant is also sending a substantial volume of aviation fuel across the Atlantic.

Maximising High-Value Fuels

David Bird, chief executive officer of Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals FZE, said the refinery is focused on diesel output while keeping jet fuel production significant. “Right now we’re very much maximising our diesel, but the jet is still extremely significant from a yield perspective,” Bird said in an interview.

Europe Still a Key Market

Bird added that European buyers will continue to receive large cargoes of aviation fuel. “Rest assured you’re going to see a massive amount of aviation fuel still making its way to Europe.”

The development means the Dangote refinery, owned by billionaire Aliko Dangote, is strengthening Nigeria’s role in global fuel supply while earning steady export revenue from Europe’s demand for refined products.
