Nigeria’s daily gas production hits 7.93bcf in May, driven by domestic demand
By Aboki Forex —
Nigeria’s daily natural gas production rose to 7.93 billion standard cubic feet per day (bcf/d) in May 2026. Fresh data from the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission shows this is a 0.63 percent year-on-year increase from 7.88bcf/d in May 2025.
Associated Gas contributed 3.96bcf/d while Non-Associated Gas added 3.98bcf/d. Non-associated gas is now pulling its weight in the production mix. This reflects the success of dedicated gas development projects.
On a month-on-month basis, production dipped slightly by 0.12 percent from 7.94bcf/d in April. But the trend over five months is positive. Production rose from 7.80bcf/d in January to 7.81bcf/d in February, 7.85bcf/d in March, and 7.94bcf/d in April.
Gas utilisation data shows a shift. Export sales dropped from 4.13bcf/d to 3.07bcf/d, now 40 percent of total production. Domestic market sales increased from 2.03bcf/d to 2.18bcf/d, representing 26.6 percent of total gas use. The rise in domestic sales points to ongoing efforts to meet local supply obligations, especially for power and industry.
