The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested three persons with disability (PWDs) for alleged drug trafficking in separate operations across Anambra and Kwara states. Operatives also uncovered 2,326 kilogrammes of Loud cannabis valued at over N5.8 billion during a raid in Lagos.
Femi Babafemi, the NDLEA Director of Media and Advocacy, disclosed this in a statement on Sunday in Abuja. He said the operations took place between May 4 and May 7 across Lagos, Anambra, Kwara, Kogi and Nasarawa states.
PWD arrests in Anambra and Kwara
According to Babafemi, one PWD suspect was tracked to Akpaka Forest in Onitsha, Anambra State, on May 6. The suspect was found with 250 grammes of skunk already packaged in retail sachets.
Another PWD was arrested during a separate raid in Ogbunike area of Anambra on May 7. Operatives recovered 160.3 grammes of Tramadol 225mg and 100mg, 80 suspected Diazepam pills, 38.23 grammes of Exol 5, and 176.93 grammes of suspected skunk from the suspect.
In Kwara State, NDLEA operatives on patrol along Bode Saadu on Friday intercepted a commercial vehicle. A PWD passenger was found with 6.3 kilogrammes of skunk concealed in a brown school bag.
N5.8bn cannabis haul in Lekki
Babafemi said operatives from the NDLEA Special Operations Unit raided a mansion in Lekki Phase 1, Lagos, on Friday. The house at 36 African Lane was allegedly used as a stash house for illicit drugs.
Officers recovered 4,000 parcels of Loud, a potent strain of imported cannabis, weighing 2,326 kilogrammes. The street value is estimated at over N5.8 billion. Two Mercedes-Benz buses and different designer sachets used for packaging the drug were also seized.
Other seizures and arrests
In Nasarawa State, NDLEA arrested a suspect at Nyanya Karu on May 4 with 129 kilogrammes of suspected skunk. In Kogi State, operatives on patrol along the Okene-Lokoja highway intercepted a J5 bus heading to Abuja on Friday. They recovered 76 jumbo bags of suspected skunk weighing 766 kilogrammes and arrested three suspects.
On May 6, NDLEA officers raided a makeshift skuchies production factory in the Ijora Badia area of Lagos. Two suspects were arrested while processing cannabis and mixing it with other illicit substances. Officers recovered 270 litres of already prepared skuchies and 106 grammes of Tramadol 225mg.
Growing crackdown on drug trafficking
The latest arrests and seizures come amid a sustained crackdown on illicit drug trafficking across Nigeria. Three days ago, the NDLEA worked with international law enforcement agencies to dismantle a transnational criminal syndicate accused of laundering drug proceeds worth hundreds of billions of naira across Europe and Nigeria. The operation led to simultaneous arrests of a suspect in Switzerland, Jecinta Amara Ikechi in Anambra State, and Blessing Ngozi Amadi in Delta State on April 28, 2026.
In April 2026, the NDLEA raided three illicit drug warehouses in Lagos, recovering opioids valued at N16.9 billion. The agency recorded 974 drug-related convictions nationwide in the first quarter of 2026, including 11 major drug kingpins sentenced to a combined 254 years’ imprisonment.
Earlier this year, NDLEA operatives intercepted large consignments of Captagon, tramadol and codeine shipments in several states as authorities intensified efforts to combat narcotics trafficking and abuse across the country.
