The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has arrested a Brazil-based businessman for importing 6.10 kilograms of cocaine into Nigeria. The suspect was intercepted at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos.
The agency disclosed this on Sunday through its spokesperson, Femi Babafemi. The suspect arrived from Brazil via Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Operatives found the cocaine during a routine luggage search.
The drugs were hidden in clothing items. Shirts and towels had been soaked in liquid cocaine, then dried and ironed to evade detection.
The suspect is 41-year-old Abugu Oliver Ikechukwu, a businessman based in Sao Paulo, Brazil. The NDLEA said the drugs were carefully concealed to avoid scanners and sniffer dogs.
The agency confirmed the suspect remains in custody. Investigations are ongoing.
