Naira gains N3.5 against dollar at official FX market

By

The naira appreciated by at least N3.51 against the US dollar at the official foreign exchange window on Tuesday, September 1, 2026. The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) official rate showed the naira trading at N1,329.4300 per dollar.

Data from the CBN’s official platform put the Nigerian Foreign Exchange Market (NFEM) rate at N1,329.4300 per dollar. The currency closed at N1,329.0000 per dollar.

Official market performance

On the previous trading day, Monday, August 31, 2026, the naira traded at an NFEM rate of N1,332.9396 per dollar. Tuesday’s trading activity left the currency stronger by at least N3.51.

The appreciation followed a similar move at the parallel market, where the buying rate rose by N2 while the selling rate stayed unchanged compared with Monday’s trading level.

Parallel market rates

According to AbokiFX, the naira-to-dollar exchange rate at the black market stood at N1,390 for buying and N1,400 for selling. The buying rate improved, but the selling rate remained flat from the previous session.

The latest official figure leaves the gap between the official and parallel market rates at roughly N70 per dollar at the CBN window, depending on the parallel market transaction.

For Nigerian businesses and importers, the naira’s gain at the official window offers a slight relief from exchange-rate pressure, though the stability of the parallel market rate remains a key indicator of demand for dollars.
