Naira records biggest September gain at official FX market

The naira strengthened by N11 against the dollar at the official foreign exchange market on Thursday, its largest gain so far this month. Central Bank of Nigeria data showed the currency traded at N1,315.67 per dollar, up from N1,326.69 on Wednesday.

This is the naira's strongest appreciation at the official window in September.

Black market rate unchanged

At the parallel market, the naira held steady at N1,400 per dollar on Thursday, unchanged from the previous day. That leaves a gap of N84.33 between the official and black market rates.

Reserves climb to $53.99 billion

The gain came as Nigeria's foreign reserves rose further to $53.99 billion as of September 2, 2026, according to data from the central bank.
