By

The Nigerian naira appreciated against the United States dollar on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, trading at N1,375.3083 at the Central Bank of Nigeria official foreign exchange window. The currency gained at both the official and parallel markets during the day's trading.

Official market performance

Data shared on the CBN's official platform shows that the naira traded at the Nigerian Foreign Exchange Market rate of N1,375.3083 per dollar and closed at N1,374.5000 per dollar. The currency had traded at an NFEM rate of N1,380.1094 on Monday, July 20, 2026. This means the naira appreciated by at least N4.8 after trading activities on Tuesday.

Parallel market movement

At the parallel market, both the buying rate and selling rate appreciated by N2 when compared to the previous trading rate on Monday, July 20, 2026. According to AbokiFX, the naira-to-dollar exchange rate at the black market on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, was N1,405 per dollar for the buying rate and N1,410 per dollar for the selling rate.

Black market rates stood at N1,408 for buying and N1,413 for selling.

What this means for the naira

The slight appreciation across both markets signals continued stability in the foreign exchange space. For Nigerian businesses and consumers, the N4.8 gain at the official window reduces the cost of dollar-denominated imports slightly, though the gap between the official and parallel rates remains wide at about N30. Sustained gains will depend on dollar supply and CBN interventions in the coming days.
