By Aboki Forex —
The naira appreciated against the dollar on the first trading day of September 2026 at the official foreign exchange market. Central Bank of Nigeria data showed the currency strengthened to N1,329.43 per dollar on Tuesday, up from N1,332.94 on Monday.
That translated to a day-to-day gain of N3.51 for the naira. At the black market, the naira was flat at N1,400 per dollar on Tuesday, the same rate traded on Monday.
Foreign exchange reserves rise
The latest official market gain comes as Nigeria's foreign exchange reserves rose to $53.81 billion at the close of August 2026.
Back-to-back gain at official market
The naira had also firmed up against the dollar on Monday at the official foreign exchange market to kick off the week on a good note. Tuesday's move extends that early momentum into the new month.
