NAFDAC locks shops at Lagos Trade Fair Complex over unregistered cosmetics

NAFDAC has shut several shops and business premises at the Trade Fair Complex in Lagos over suspected dealings in unregistered cosmetic products. The agency announced the enforcement action on its X account on Saturday, August 29, 2026.

The affected premises were locked and placed under NAFDAC HOLD labels pending further regulatory action. Samples of suspected unregistered cosmetics were taken for investigation.

Two-day operation

NAFDAC's Investigation and Enforcement Directorate, Cosmetics Division, carried out the operation on August 26 and 27, 2026. The exercise covered shops and business premises where suspected unregistered cosmetic products were identified.

Affected premises include Vincentmo World, opposite Bmeck Plaza, Private Plaza; Amazon City of Fragrance, Shops 37 and 38, Beauty Promise Land Plaza; Aza-King Store Perfumes, opposite Fidelity Bank; PP2 and Fragrance Int'l Ltd., Design Perfumes and Cosmetics; No. D12 Fragrance Doctor Shop, Abia Plaza; and God and Obaino Fragrance Store, opposite Wave Plaza. Other shops within the complex were also affected.

The Trade Fair Complex is located along the Lagos-Badagry Expressway in Ojo. It is one of Lagos State's major commercial centres, housing traders dealing in cosmetics, fragrances and imported consumer goods.

NAFDAC said it collected samples of the suspected products for further investigation. It also issued invitation letters to owners and operators of the affected businesses for interrogation and necessary regulatory proceedings.

Previous crackdowns

This is not the first NAFDAC enforcement at the Trade Fair Complex. On February 23, the agency said it uncovered counterfeit and unregistered cosmetic products valued at over N3 billion at the APT Trade Fair Complex in Lagos.

Earlier, on February 10, NAFDAC said it confiscated more than 10 million doses of fake malaria drugs and cosmetic products valued at about N3 billion at the Trade Fair Market. In April, the agency dismantled two illegal production outlets involved in the counterfeiting and adulteration of alcoholic beverages in Lagos State. That raid led to the seizure of counterfeit alcoholic products valued at approximately N350 million.

Wider regulatory push

NAFDAC's action comes amid increased enforcement against businesses dealing in products that do not meet Nigeria's safety, registration and consumer protection requirements.

The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission has also directed manufacturers, importers, distributors and retailers to withdraw consumer goods that do not comply with mandatory product labelling requirements. The commission warned that businesses that continue to sell non-compliant products could face enforcement action.

In April, FCCPC sealed First Place Supermarket in Guzape, Abuja, following an inspection prompted by consumer complaints. The inspection found discrepancies between shelf and checkout prices, products without price tags, expired goods, improper storage of perishables and suspected counterfeit products, including rice.

For traders and businesses, the message is clear: unregistered or non-compliant products will attract regulatory action. With NAFDAC and FCCPC both tightening enforcement, importers and retailers must verify product registration and labelling before stocking their shelves or risk shutdown and financial loss.
