Bezos becomes world's second-richest as net worth jumps $122 billion

By —

Amazon founder Jeff Bezos is now the world's second-richest person after his net worth rose by $122 billion over the past year. The Bloomberg Billionaires Index puts his fortune at $372 billion, a 48.7% increase from the same period in 2025.

The 62-year-old billionaire added $7.31 billion in the latest assessment, a 2% gain. That places him ahead of Alphabet co-founder Larry Page and behind Tesla and SpaceX chief executive Elon Musk, whose fortune is estimated at $1.02 trillion.

Where the $372 billion sits

Bezos' wealth rests on three main holdings: Amazon, Blue Origin and the artificial intelligence startup Prometheus. His Amazon stake remains his largest publicly traded asset at about $230.8 billion. He owns roughly 8.2% of the e-commerce company, according to an August 2026 regulatory filing.

His Blue Origin investment is valued at approximately $123.5 billion following a funding round that valued the space company at $140 billion in September 2026. His stake in Prometheus, which he co-founded in 2025, is worth about $12.2 billion.

Other assets include about $4.7 billion in cash, the Washington Post at $250 million, and his superyacht Koru, valued at $500 million.

Blue Origin and Prometheus drive the gain

Blue Origin delivered one of the largest single contributions to his wealth growth. The company raised $10 billion in September at a post-money valuation of $140 billion, according to PitchBook data. Bloomberg estimates Bezos owns about 93% of Blue Origin, applying a 5% discount for its privately held status. That valuation adjustment added roughly $85 billion to his estimated fortune in October 2026.

He has also pushed deeper into artificial intelligence through Prometheus. The startup raised funds at a $41 billion valuation in June 2026, with Bezos estimated to hold about 35% of the company. A Wall Street Journal report cited by Bloomberg said he had invested approximately $30 billion in the business before the latest funding round.

The trillionaire ahead of him

Rising valuations of privately held space companies have lifted Musk's fortune as well. Musk became the world's first trillionaire after SpaceX's initial public offering in June 2026, with his wealth increasing by approximately $405 billion during the year. That leaves him roughly $648 billion clear of Bezos at current estimates.

The figures show how much of the top of the global wealth table now depends on private valuations rather than listed shares, with space and AI assets doing the heaviest lifting.
