EFCC recovered N1.23tn, $684m in 33 months, says Olukoyede

By

Ola Olukoyede, chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), says the agency recovered N1.23tn, $684.48m, £373,905.78 and €9.34m between October 1, 2023 and June 30, 2026. He spoke on Monday in Abuja at a meeting with media executives and journalists.

Olukoyede said asset recovery remains one of the major pillars of the commission’s stewardship. The recoveries, he said, came from proceeds and assets linked to financial crimes.

Recoveries in 33 months

“Between 1 October 2023 and 30 June 2026, the Commission recorded recoveries of N1,233,612,040,411.11, $684,478,457.32, £373,905.78 and €9,343,803.66, in addition to recoveries in other currencies,” Olukoyede stated.

He explained that N397.26bn, about 33 per cent of total naira recoveries, went directly to the Federal Government. The balance, N836.34bn, was indirect recoveries made on behalf of ministries.

Federal share and ministry recoveries

“Of the naira amount, approximately N397.26bn, representing 33 per cent, represented direct recoveries for the Federal Government, while N836.34bn, representing 67 per cent, represented indirect recoveries made on behalf of ministries,” the EFCC chairman said.

EFCC pledge

Olukoyede said the figures show the commission’s continued push to recover proceeds tied to economic and financial crimes and to protect public resources. He said asset recovery remains central to the EFCC’s mandate and its fight against financial crime.

He said the commission will continue to strengthen its recovery efforts to safeguard resources and support accountability in the management of public funds.
