Ghana and Ivory Coast Agree on New Cocoa Season Dates, Harmonised Prices

By

Ghana and Ivory Coast have agreed to start the 2026/27 cocoa season on September 1 and end it on August 31. Ghanaian President John Dramani Mahama announced this on Tuesday after a meeting with Ivory Coast’s President Alassane Ouattara in Abidjan.

The two countries account for about 60% of global cocoa output. They have been working together to align the prices paid to farmers for cocoa beans. Mahama said they will harmonise the guaranteed minimum farmgate prices announced at the start of each marketing season.

“We are partners, not adversaries or competitors, in the cocoa sector. This collaboration must be strengthened and allow us to make our producers happy,” Mahama told the media.

Earlier this year, Ivory Coast moved the start of its mid-crop to March 1 from April 1. The world’s biggest cocoa producer made the change to boost sales of stocks left from the main crop.
