NGX Invest Adds WhatsApp Channel for Public Offer Subscriptions

By —

Nigerian Exchange Group Plc has added a WhatsApp subscription channel to its NGX Invest platform, giving retail and institutional investors another route into primary market public offers.

Investors start by sending "Invest" to the designated NGX Invest contact number. Interactive prompts then let them view eligible offerings and complete the necessary subscription steps inside the messaging interface. No separate application download is required.

Stockbrokers stay in the chain

Every application still passes through an accredited stockbroker chosen by the investor. That keeps dealing member firms inside the transaction chain even as the front end shifts to a messaging app.

The new channel widens NGX Invest's distribution network, which already connects issuers to market participants through more than 100 integrated access points. These include stockbroking firms, commercial banks, financial technology operators and mobile telecommunication providers, linked through Application Programming Interface connectivity.

Issuers get deeper retail reach

By moving primary market instruments onto a platform investors already use daily, NGX Group aims to cut operational friction and deepen market penetration. For corporate issuers, the integration extends reach and supports retail participation in capital-raising exercises.

The launch forms part of NGX Group's strategy to lean on financial technology, strategic partnerships and open-market distribution networks to widen participation across the Nigerian capital market.

Security and track record

WhatsApp serves only as the front end. All underlying investment transactions are routed and processed through NGX Invest's secure, regulated clearing and settlement infrastructure.

Investors are advised to interact exclusively with the official verified number. They "should never share passwords, PINs, OTPs or other sensitive credentials with third parties."

The exchange group also stressed that growing digital participation must be "supported by secure, transparent and regulated market infrastructure."

NGX Invest is the Securities and Exchange Commission-approved electronic offering platform for public offers, rights issues and initial public offerings. Since its operational deployment in 2024, the portal has facilitated over 23 primary market transactions and supported capital raising valued at over N3tn across diverse corporate sectors.

For issuers, the extra channel is a bet on reaching retail investors who have stayed on the sidelines of public offers. Whether that converts into deeper subscription books will depend on adoption and on how many offers are routed through the platform.
