DMO raises N5.86bn via August savings bond, retail participation dips
By Aboki Forex —
The Federal Government raised N5.86 billion through its August 2026 Savings Bond offer, down from the N6.19 billion recorded in July. The Debt Management Office (DMO) disclosed this in its latest allotment circular released on Thursday.
August offer details
The August offer comprised two-year and three-year Federal Government of Nigeria Savings Bonds (FGNSB). The two-year bond carries an interest rate of 13.963 per cent, while the three-year bond pays 14.963 per cent.
The decline in retail participation suggests softer demand for the savings bonds compared with the previous month. The DMO regularly issues these bonds to attract retail investors and support national savings.
What this means for investors
For Nigerian retail investors, the savings bond remains a government-backed instrument with fixed interest income. The latest figures show that while participation eased, the offer still raised billions for the Federal Government's funding needs.
The lower uptake could reflect competing investment options or changing liquidity conditions in the market. However, the DMO continues to provide retail investors with a low-risk savings avenue tied to government securities.
