EKEDP loses national grid supply, plunging parts of Lagos into darkness
By Aboki Forex —
The Eko Electricity Distribution Plc (EKEDP) has lost power supply from the national grid. The outage is currently affecting customers across its entire network in Lagos.
EKEDP announced the development in a statement on Sunday, June 28, 2026. The company said the loss occurred at 1:49 pm that afternoon. It described the incident as a transmission-level problem outside its direct control.
EKEDP is investigating the cause. It said it is in contact with relevant authorities to confirm the full situation and get a restoration timeline.
The affected areas include Lagos Island, Victoria Island, Ikoyi, Lekki, Ajah, Ibeju-Lekki, Bogije, Elemoro, Orile Iganmu, Coker, Badagry Expressway, Ijora, Apapa, Mushin, Festac, Amuwo Odofin, Satellite Town, Ojo, Badagry, and Agbara.
EKEDP typically receives between 11% and 15% of the electricity supplied to the national grid. A loss of supply from the grid means these areas are completely without power until the transmission issue is resolved.
The company assured customers that teams are working to restore normal supply quickly. It promised further updates as soon as confirmed information becomes available.
