EFCC offers whistleblowers up to 5% reward for leads on stolen assets abroad

By

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has promised whistleblowers between 2.5 per cent and 5 per cent of recovered assets for credible information on Nigerian funds and properties hidden abroad.

EFCC chairman Ola Olukoyede made the disclosure at the 43rd International Symposium on Economic Crime in Cambridge, United Kingdom.

Call for credible information

In a statement on Wednesday, EFCC spokesman Dele Oyewale said Olukoyede urged individuals with information on the location of Nigerian assets suspected to be proceeds of corruption anywhere in the world to approach the commission.

Olukoyede said: “I welcome all of you to the world of whistleblowing. If any one of you is privy to where Nigerian assets are stolen or taken to anywhere in the world, we have an incentive for you; between 2.5 per cent and 5 per cent, it’s going to go back to you upon recovery.”

What it means for Nigerians

The incentive gives citizens a financial reason to assist the EFCC in tracking stolen wealth and recovering public funds. It is part of a broader push to recover assets linked to corruption.
