Ex-Power Minister Saleh Mamman Sentenced to 70 Years in N33 Billion Fraud Case

By

A Federal High Court in Abuja has sentenced former Minister of Power, Saleh Mamman, to approximately 70 years in prison. The conviction follows a 12-count amended money laundering charge brought by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) involving N33 billion.

Justice James Omotosho handed down the sentence on Monday. He ruled that the seven-year terms on each count will run consecutively, with no option of a fine. On one count, the judge sentenced Mamman to three years and imposed a N10 million fine.

The judge berated the ex-minister for absconding from the court to avoid hearing his sentencing. Justice Omotosho ordered national and international security agencies to arrest Mamman if found outside the court's jurisdiction.

The court also ordered the forfeiture of all foreign currencies recovered from Mamman's home by the EFCC. His properties are also to be seized. More details will follow.
