CBN reforms strengthening naira, stabilising markets, says United Capital CEO

By

Peter Ashade, Group Chief Executive Officer of United Capital Plc, says the Central Bank of Nigeria’s ongoing economic reforms are successfully altering the structural makeup of the Nigerian economy. He spoke on Wednesday at the United Capital Investor Relations Connect held in Lagos.

The event was themed “Decoding Performance: Insights into United Capital’s Growth Drivers and Outlook”. Ashade told stakeholders that policy adjustments aimed at curbing structural imbalances are opening vast opportunities across diverse economic sectors.

Policy shifts supporting the naira

Ashade said the reforms are paving the way for sustained financial market stability and local currency appreciation. He argued that the central monetary authority’s measures are reshaping the economy’s foundations, not just delivering temporary fixes.

He pointed to growing investor confidence in Nigeria. “A few weeks ago, they ranked Nigeria as the best-performing stock market in the entire world in dollar terms, so people are taking positions,” he said.

Opportunities across sectors

The United Capital boss emphasised that the reforms are creating opportunities in many parts of the economy. He said the structural changes underway would support long-term growth.

Ashade made the remarks while addressing shareholders and market participants at the Lagos event. The Investor Relations Connect was designed to provide insight into United Capital’s growth drivers and outlook.

What it means for the naira and markets

For the Nigerian economy, sustained policy consistency from the CBN could help keep the naira firm and attract more foreign portfolio inflows. Ashade noted that Nigeria’s stock market outperformance in dollar terms is already drawing positions from international investors, a sign that confidence is returning.
