MultiChoice to Upgrade DStv, GOtv Subscribers From November 2026, Premium Tier to Cost N44,500

By —

MultiChoice will automatically move active DStv and GOtv subscribers to new packages from November 5, 2026, at no extra cost. The company said subscribers will not pay more for the transition and will get at least the content on their current plans, with some gaining access to additional channels.

Chief Executive Officer Kemi Omotosho announced the restructuring at a media briefing at MultiChoice’s Victoria Island headquarters in Lagos. She said the changes are part of the DStv Expect More campaign and are meant to simplify subscription options and improve value across African markets.

New DStv and GOtv tiers

The restructuring introduces four new subscription tiers for each platform. The new DStv tiers are Starter, Select, Sports and Premium. GOtv customers will choose from Easy, Starter, Select and Sports. Existing DStv Access subscribers will move to Starter, Family subscribers to Select, Compact subscribers to Sports, and Compact Plus subscribers to Premium.

Monthly DStv rates under the new structure are Starter at N6,000, Select at N11,000, Sports at N21,000 and Premium at N44,500. MultiChoice said lower-tier subscribers can access content worth up to N44,500 while paying N21,000 to renew subscriptions.

Subscribers who paid several months in advance will keep their existing packages until those subscription periods expire. Omotosho said: "What we will say is that you will not get less than what you paid for. So, at the minimum, you get what you paid for." She added that the company was reviewing whether prepaid subscribers could receive additional content, but no decision had been finalised.

Sports and entertainment changes

MultiChoice Nigeria’s Senior Vice President of Communications, Tope Oshunkeye, said the packages will feature refreshed sports and entertainment content. SuperSport KICKOFF will carry selected football fixtures, including the Premier League Match of the Week and some UEFA Champions League matches.

The Sports package will provide access to all Premier League and UEFA Champions League matches. Premium subscribers will also get Formula 1, MotoGP, tennis and golf coverage.

On entertainment, M-Net Movies+ will combine the content of the former M-Net Movies 1 and M-Net Movies 2 channels. Africa Magic Family has been rebranded as Africa Magic+.

Omotosho said the overhaul followed the company’s recognition that its previous subscription structure needed significant changes.

GOtv Stream closure

MultiChoice has also discontinued its GOtv Stream mobile application, ending a service that allowed subscribers to watch selected GOtv channels on phones and tablets. A notice on the GOtv Stream website confirmed the closure and directed customers back to their television decoders. The app has been removed from the Google Play Store and the Apple App Store.

The shift affects pay-TV pricing and content access for Nigerian homes and businesses. Subscribers on lower tiers will get more channels, while MultiChoice keeps the entry price for DStv Starter at N6,000 and the top DStv Premium tier at N44,500.
