Enugu Air Gets Approval for Lagos-London Gatwick Flights
By Aboki Forex —
Enugu Air has secured approval to operate a proposed Lagos to London Gatwick route, with Omni-Blu Aviation named as designated operator. No launch date, flight schedule, ticket prices or booking details have been announced.
The Enugu State-owned airline said the approval is part of a strategic partnership to support its international expansion. If launched, the service would give travellers another Nigerian airline option on the Nigeria-UK corridor.
What the approval covers
Enugu Air said Omni-Blu Aviation will serve as designated operator and provide operational support under the arrangement. The proposed service is expected to improve connectivity between Nigeria and the United Kingdom and create opportunities in passenger travel, business travel and trade.
The approval is a milestone for Enugu Air as it seeks to expand beyond domestic aviation. But it does not mean commercial flights will start immediately. The airline still has to complete additional operational requirements before any service begins.
No dates or fares yet
There is no commencement date, flight frequency, ticket price or booking arrangement for the proposed Lagos-London Gatwick service. The airline has linked the move to the aviation and economic transformation agenda of Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah, which aims to position Enugu as a destination for investment, tourism, business and international connectivity.
The route connects Lagos directly with London, but the airline said expanding its aviation footprint would support a broader network over time.
Competition on the UK route
The development follows Air Peace's entry into the Lagos-London market. Air Peace began scheduled direct flights between Lagos and London Gatwick in March 2024, offering travellers another option on a route historically dominated by foreign carriers. Enugu Air's proposed entry could widen passenger choices and increase competition among airlines serving the United Kingdom.
Industry observers generally see more competition as good for passengers, especially when extra capacity supports competitive fares and better service. The actual effect on ticket prices will depend on Enugu Air's eventual schedule, operating costs and commercial strategy.
The approval comes as Nigerian travellers also face higher domestic costs. Economy tickets on some domestic routes reached N337,500 after fare increases of nearly 200% by several airlines. Tickets for flights departing on December 20 and 21, 2026, on routes linking Lagos and Abuja to South-East and South-South cities climbed to between N196,000 and N337,500.
For now, the approval signals another step in Nigerian airlines' push into international aviation. For passengers and businesses, the real naira impact will only be clear when Enugu Air sets a date, capacity and fare strategy for the route.
