Five federal grants and empowerment programmes Nigerians can explore in 2026

By —

Five Federal Government programmes are offering Nigerians vocational training, business grants, emergency relief and financing in 2026. The schemes range from monthly TVET stipends to a ₦50,000 emergency grant for selected households.

TVET and NERSI cash support

The Federal Ministry of Education’s Technical and Vocational Education and Training initiative trains Nigerians in fashion design, solar installation, automobile repairs, agriculture, ICT and other trades. Reports on the 2026 Batch C programme indicate eligible trainees can receive up to ₦30,000 monthly, free training and possible start-up support. Training runs for six months or one year, depending on qualifications and experience. Applicants should visit the official TVET portal, create an account, select a trade and accredited centre, and submit required documents. Short-term applicants need valid NIN and BVN details.

The National Emergency Relief and Stabilisation Intervention provides ₦50,000 in non-repayable assistance to selected poor and vulnerable households. Beneficiaries are identified through the National Social Register and verified identity records. Payments go through ALAT, MoMo PSB, NairaGram, OPay and Moniepoint. NERSI does not accept open applications. Selected Nigerians get notifications through approved payment providers and can confirm eligibility using official USSD channels or supported apps. Nobody should pay to secure selection.

SMEDAN and GEEP

The Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria runs a Conditional Grant Scheme for nano and microbusinesses. Eligible owners can receive ₦50,000 to buy equipment, improve operations and create employment. Beneficiaries are expected to employ at least one person. Business owners should visit the SMEDAN Conditional Grant Scheme page to register interest and check available application channels. Funding depends on programme availability and selection.

The Government Enterprise and Empowerment Programme offers interest-free financing to petty traders, market women, artisans and smallholder farmers. Its initiatives include TraderMoni, MarketMoni and FarmerMoni. Depending on the scheme, eligible beneficiaries may access ₦50,000 to ₦300,000. These facilities are loans and must be repaid. Interested Nigerians can visit the GEEP website to check eligibility and registration announcements. Some application windows remain closed or are awaiting reopening.

Presidential grant and caution

The Presidential Conditional Grant Scheme gives non-repayable support to nano businesses, including traders, artisans, food vendors and other small-scale entrepreneurs. It focuses on women, young people and vulnerable groups. The scheme was launched in 2024, but a fresh nationwide application window for November 2026 has not been confirmed. Business owners should monitor announcements from the Bank of Industry and relevant federal agencies.

These programmes differ. Not every initiative provides free money. Registration does not guarantee selection. Nigerians should use verified government platforms, confirm deadlines and avoid anyone demanding payment for grant approval. For small businesses, the schemes can provide equipment, working capital or training, but applicants must check whether an offer is a grant or a loan.
