Moniepoint opens *5573*27# for FG’s N50,000 NERSI grant checks

By —

Moniepoint Microfinance Bank has opened a USSD channel for customers to check eligibility for the Federal Government’s ₦50,000 relief grant. Eligible customers can dial *5573*27# with the phone number registered to their Moniepoint account. The public alert also points to the *27# check code.

The grant is under the National Emergency Relief and Stabilisation Intervention (NERSI), coordinated by the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction. The programme is meant to help vulnerable households with essential expenses as living costs rise.

How the check works

Moniepoint said customers should dial *5573*27#, follow the prompts and select the option to check eligibility status. The process is free, with no additional charges or documentation required. Those confirmed as beneficiaries will get further instructions on accepting the payment and having the money credited directly to their Moniepoint accounts.

The bank stated that dialling *5573*27# does not guarantee payment. Selection is determined by the Federal Government using eligibility criteria and verification procedures. The process relies on verified national identity information and records in the National Social Register, which identifies vulnerable individuals and households. Not every Moniepoint customer will qualify.

Phased payments and fraud warning

Disbursements are being implemented in phases, so eligible Nigerians may receive confirmation at different times. Customers not selected immediately may need to wait for further government verification.

Moniepoint Microfinance Bank Managing Director Babatunde Olofin said the institution was supporting the government by providing secure infrastructure to distribute the relief funds. He said the partnership would make it easier for eligible Nigerians to access assistance through existing banking channels.

Olofin warned customers against fraudsters who may use the programme to demand payments or sensitive banking information. He stressed that beneficiaries should use only the bank’s official USSD channel and avoid third-party agents promising guaranteed access. Customers needing help can contact Moniepoint customer service or the official NERSI helpdesk on 0700 022 2222.

What it means for customers

For account holders, the USSD route offers a quick way to check status without visiting a bank or completing extra paperwork. But the key condition remains government approval. Only verified beneficiaries can receive the ₦50,000.

Moniepoint said it previously supported subsidised food distribution benefiting more than 800,000 Nigerians and facilitated ₦3 billion in empowerment payments to 2,400 vulnerable citizens. Its banking infrastructure and POS network extend across Nigeria’s 774 local government areas, which the bank expects to support wider access to NERSI.

Separately, some vulnerable Nigerian households have reportedly begun receiving ₦25,000 payment alerts under the Federal Government’s Household Prosperity and Empowerment (HoPE) Cash Transfer Programme. Authorities have yet to confirm the extent of payments nationwide.
