MultiChoice, Stained Glass TV announce new psychological thriller

By —

MultiChoice Group and South African producer Stained Glass TV are developing a new African psychological thriller. The title, cast and release platform have not been confirmed.

The announcement was made at FAME Week Africa 2026 during a session with executives from Canal+, MultiChoice Group and StudioCanal. MultiChoice is now part of French media giant Canal+.

What MultiChoice said

Nomsa Philiso, MultiChoice Group's Chief Content Officer for Africa, called the collaboration a major milestone in the company's longstanding relationship with Stained Glass TV. She described it as a "full-circle moment" for both companies.

"We've walked a long road with Stained Glass TV and have shared in the success of some truly memorable stories over the years," Philiso said. She added that the production company continues to challenge creative boundaries and create stories that resonate with African audiences.

MultiChoice has not confirmed whether the thriller will premiere on DStv, Showmax or another platform. For Nigerian subscribers, that leaves local availability unconfirmed.

Stained Glass TV's track record

Stained Glass TV was founded by Kobedi "Pepsi" Pokane and sisters Thuli Zuma and Gugu Zuma-Ncube. Its previous collaborations with MultiChoice include The Wife, Lingashoni, Ifalakhe and eHostela.

The company's Netflix drama The Polygamist spent seven consecutive weeks among Netflix's Global Top 10 Non-English Shows. Netflix said it was reportedly the longest run for a South African title. The 22-episode series, adapted from Zimbabwean author Sue Nyathi's 2012 novel and directed by Akin Omotoso, premiered on June 12, 2026. Reports indicated it drew 19.1 million viewing hours in its opening week and reached third place on the global chart. It also generated controversy over its portrayal of polygamy and African cultural traditions.

Die Kantoor renewed

MultiChoice has confirmed a second season of Die Kantoor, the South African adaptation of The Office. The first season premiered on kykNET and Showmax in January 2026. It earned five nominations at the kykNET Silwerskerm Film & TV Awards and won two. Availability for Nigerian audiences has not been confirmed.

The content push comes as MultiChoice invests in original African programming amid competition from international streaming platforms. Nigerian viewers already have access to Nollywood films alongside international and other African productions. MultiChoice earlier confirmed that DStv Price Lock contracts are unlikely to return. The pay-TV operator suspended the affordable contracts in July 2026 as part of restructuring aimed at simplifying subscription offerings and aligning prices across streaming and decoder-based services.

For DStv and Showmax subscribers in Nigeria, the key question is whether the new psychological thriller will enter the local lineup. That answer is still pending.
