HoPE Cash Transfer: Some Households Get ₦25,000 Alerts, No Open Portal Yet

By —

Some Nigerian households have reportedly received ₦25,000 payment alerts under the Federal Government’s Household Prosperity and Empowerment (HoPE) Cash Transfer Programme. Eligible households are expected to get ₦25,000 monthly for three months, a total of ₦75,000, but nationwide payments remain unconfirmed.

The reported alerts came from financial institutions including Fortis Microfinance Bank and Teasy Pay. The messages suggest funds may have been credited to selected beneficiaries. They do not confirm that every eligible household has been paid or that disbursement has been completed nationwide.

What beneficiaries should do

People who have received alerts should check the SMS for the amount and account details. They should contact the bank or payment provider named in the message through verified customer service channels. Where they are asked to open or activate an account, they should independently confirm the instructions before acting. Beneficiaries can also verify their payment status with the National Cash Transfer Office through official channels. They should then follow the financial institution’s verified process for withdrawing or using the funds. These steps are for people already identified as beneficiaries. They are not a new public application process.

No verified open application portal

No verified open application portal or fresh registration procedure has been established in the reported payment update. Cash transfer eligibility is generally linked to government social protection records and the identification of vulnerable households. Nigerians who have not received payment alerts should not assume they have been excluded. They should seek information from the National Cash Transfer Office rather than submit personal details through unverified websites or social media advertisements. The office’s website is www.ncto.gov.ng. Beneficiaries seeking clarification can reportedly call 969 using an MTN number. The reported operating hours are Monday to Friday, between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. They should confirm that the number and hours remain valid before relying on them.

Avoid scams and pay agents

Public interest in government cash transfers is rising, and fraudsters may take advantage. Beneficiaries should not pay agents or intermediaries who promise to speed up disbursement or guarantee inclusion. They should not disclose bank PINs, passwords, one-time passwords or other confidential financial information. Any payment notification should be independently verified before they follow instructions involving account registration or personal details.

What it means for households

The expected ₦75,000 could help eligible households meet food, transport and other basic expenses. But the number of beneficiaries already paid, nationwide coverage and the timetable for outstanding payments remain unconfirmed. Official verification remains essential for anyone expecting the money. Separately, the SMEDAN Conditional Grant Scheme provides ₦50,000 to eligible nano enterprises operating at local government level, with the funding meant to support equipment purchases, operations and employment.
