Cooking Gas Prices: Where a 12.5kg Refill Costs ₦15,000 and Where It Hits ₦21,250

By —

Households in Shagamu, Ogun State and Badagry, Lagos State paid ₦15,000 to refill a 12.5kg cooking gas cylinder, the cheapest rates in a September 2026 survey. In Ayobo and Ogba, both in Lagos, the same cylinder cost ₦21,250.

Retail price data for October 2026 showed a gap of ₦6,250 between the cheapest and most expensive locations surveyed. Transportation costs, supply conditions and retailers' operating expenses drive the differences in Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) prices across the country. Prices may have changed since the survey, so buyers should confirm current rates with retailers before refilling.

The cheapest markets

Shagamu sold at ₦1,200 per kilogramme, which works out to ₦15,000 for a 12.5kg cylinder. Badagry matched that rate at ₦1,200 per kilogramme, or ₦15,000, well below what other parts of Lagos charged.

Owode Yewa in Ogun State came in at about ₦1,240 per kilogramme, translating to ₦15,500 for a refill.

Four locations tied at ₦1,250 per kilogramme, or ₦15,625 for a 12.5kg cylinder: Ijebu East in Ogun State, Suleja in Niger State, Ikorodu in Lagos State and Warri in Delta State. For Ijebu East, that price was ₦1,991.94 below the September national average.

Ejigbo in Lagos sold at about ₦1,300 per kilogramme, putting a 12.5kg refill at ₦16,250, which was ₦1,366.94 below the national average. Lagos Island followed at ₦1,400 per kilogramme, or ₦17,500 per cylinder, slightly under the September national average of ₦17,616.94.

The expensive end

Iriebe in Rivers State recorded ₦20,000 for a 12.5kg refill. Ayobo and Ogba in Lagos were the highest in the survey at ₦21,250.

The spread inside Lagos alone is wide. Ikorodu at ₦15,625 was ₦5,625 cheaper than Ayobo and Ogba at ₦21,250 for the same cylinder size, while Badagry at ₦15,000 was far lower than Lagos Island at ₦17,500.

What it means for households

For a family buying gas weekly or fortnightly, the difference between ₦15,000 and ₦21,250 per refill runs into thousands of naira a month. Consumers who can buy across local government lines, or who can switch to a nearby cheaper retailer, have real room to cut costs. Retailers in high-cost areas, where rent and logistics add to operating expenses, may also face pressure from customers willing to travel for a lower price.
