MEDL announces six-day, eight-hour daily power outage in Enugu
By Aboki Forex —
Mainpower Electricity Distribution Limited (MEDL) has announced a six-day scheduled power interruption across communities in Enugu State. The outage will run from Thursday, November 5, to Tuesday, November 10, 2026, with supply cut between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. daily, eight hours each day.
MEDL, a subsidiary of the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC), said the interruption will allow the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) to carry out maintenance at its Nsukka transmission station. Spokesperson Emeka Ezeh announced the plan in a statement issued on Monday, October 26, 2026.
Feeders and areas affected
The maintenance will affect customers on three 33kV feeders: University of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN), SUMAS and Orba. The communities span at least six local government areas: Nsukka, Udenu, Uzo-Uwani, Igbo-Eze North, Igbo-Eze South and Igbo-Etiti.
Affected locations include Ukopi, Opi Agu, Eha-Alumona and Orba Town; Obollo-Afor and parts of Obollo-Eke; Enugu Ezike, Ibagwa and Nkalagu; Obukpa; Okpaligbo, Iheaka and Edem Ani; Agbani, Uzo-Uwani, Obimo and Nkpologu; Lejja, Nguru, Aku and Ogbede; Odim Gate, Nkpor, Nru and Ede Oballa; El Tabera Estate, Ikenga Estate and Wilson Company; Umakashi, Isiakpu, GRA and Ogige Main Market; and University of Nigeria Nsukka and surrounding communities.
Why supply is poor
MEDL also blamed the recent deterioration in electricity supply across Enugu State on falling national power generation. Ezeh said declining generation caused low system frequency, forcing TCN to introduce load shedding. The development reduced the volume of electricity allocated to MEDL and affected its ability to meet daily service commitments.
The company said the supply challenges are not entirely within its control because distribution depends on available generation and transmission capacity. MEDL said it will continue to monitor electricity allocation and distribute available power across its network. It expressed optimism that normal supply would return once the broader generation challenges are resolved. Ezeh appealed for patience and apologised for the inconvenience to households, commercial establishments and institutions.
What it means
Residents and business owners in the affected areas should plan for eight hours without grid supply each day for six days. The timing, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., covers peak working hours for many small businesses, offices and institutions.
Separately, Ikeja Electric (IE) apologised to customers in parts of Lagos after five Band A electricity feeders failed to meet the minimum daily power supply requirement of 20 hours on September 30 and October 1, 2026. The company disclosed the shortfall in a public notice published on Friday, October 2.
