Dangote Refinery Cuts Cooking Gas to N1,025/kg, Undercuts Rivals by N145
By Aboki Forex —
Dangote Refinery has listed cooking gas at N1,025 per kilogramme on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, the lowest rate among seven LPG suppliers surveyed. The new price is N5 lower than the previous N1,030, a reduction of about 0.49%.
At N1,025 per kilogramme, the refinery rate translates to N12,812.50 for a 12.5kg cylinder before transportation, distribution costs and retailers margins.
How Dangote compares with other suppliers
The Dangote refinery rate was N145 lower than the next-lowest prices offered by other marketers. The price per kilogramme list for Tuesday, October 20, 2026 showed Dangote at N1,025, Rain Oil at N1,170, Techno Oil at N1,170, Navgas at N1,175, NIPCO at N1,180, 11 PLC at N1,180 and Stockgap at N1,225.
The cut comes as the Nigerian cooking gas market remains under pressure from demand, supply constraints and export commitments, factors that have pushed LPG prices to record highs and strained the budgets of homes and small businesses.
Retail prices remain wide across locations
Retail cooking gas prices in September 2026 ranged from N1,200 to N1,700 per kilogramme across 15 Nigerian locations. For a 12.5kg cylinder, Shagamu and Badagry recorded N15,000, or N1,200 per kg. Owode Yewa recorded N15,500, or N1,240 per kg. Ijebu East, Suleja, Ikorodu and Warri recorded N15,625, or N1,250 per kg. Ejigbo recorded N16,250, or N1,300 per kg. Lagos Island recorded N17,500, or N1,400 per kg. Iriebe in Port Harcourt, Oyo Alaafin and Eleme in Rivers State recorded N20,000, or N1,600 per kg. Biu in Borno State recorded N20,625, or N1,650 per kg. Ayobo and Ogba in Lagos recorded N21,250, or N1,700 per kg.
The national average price of a 12.5kg cylinder climbed to N17,616.94 in September, up from N16,847 in August. The increase of N769.94 represented approximately 4.57%.
What the price cut means
A decade ago, low-income cooking gas was more accessible for many households, costing students and low-income earners about N250 per kilogramme. More than 60% of Nigeria gas was exported in the first three months of this year.
For households and small businesses, the refinery cut offers only modest relief while retail prices remain as high as N1,700 per kg in parts of Lagos. Transport, distribution costs and retailer margins will determine how much of the N5 reduction reaches the cylinder.
