Five DisCos Give Reasons for Power Cuts in Lagos, Abuja, Ogun, Other States
By Aboki Forex —
Five electricity distribution companies have issued separate notices explaining power cuts and reduced supply affecting customers in Lagos, Abuja, Ogun and other states. The companies cited grid shortfalls, technical faults, transmission restrictions and scheduled maintenance.
Ikeja Electric said reduced supply hours across its Lagos network were caused by insufficient allocation from the national grid. The company said it was engaging relevant stakeholders to improve supply and would share available electricity as fairly as possible. It issued a similar notice on October 5, with supply constraints persisting. Some communities, including Ogba and its environs and FESTAC, reportedly had outages lasting up to two days.
Abuja and Ogun outages
In the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) blamed a technical fault for outages in several communities. The affected areas included Kado Fish Market, Life Camp Extension, Nizamiye Hospital, Diamond Court Estate, HUS Prime Estate, Decent Creation, Mab Global Estate and Idu Karmo. AEDC said its technical team was working to fix the problem, with restoration targeted for 11:00 a.m. on Monday, October 19.
In Ogun State, Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) linked reduced supply to load restrictions on the Ota/Papalanto/Abeokuta 132kV transmission network. A notice dated October 17 said the restrictions cut power available to 33kV feeders serving Ota, Ifo, Ilaro, Abeokuta, Papalanto, Mowe, Ibafo, Ofada, Owode-Egba, Ayetoro and Imeko. IBEDC said it was monitoring the situation with its supply partners.
Maintenance, restoration and tower collapse
Jos Electricity Distribution Company (JED) announced a planned interruption for October 21 to allow maintenance on a 33kV feeder connected to the 132kV Gombe Transmission Substation. Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company (PHED) said supply had been restored to parts of its network after an outage affecting the Alaoji-Afam transmission line.
The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) had confirmed disruptions in parts of Nasarawa State after three transmission towers collapsed along the 132kV Karu-Keffi-Akwanga line. TCN said the towers fell at about 4:06 p.m. on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, amid rainy and windy weather. The incident triggered the line's overcurrent protection system, causing the single-circuit transmission line to trip.
The notices point to a mix of operational and infrastructure problems behind the outages. For businesses and households in affected areas, the key issue is how quickly each DisCo restores supply and whether grid allocation improves.
