NNPC Extends N66 Per Litre Petrol Discount to October 31
By Aboki Forex —
NNPC Limited has extended its N66 per litre petrol discount at its retail stations nationwide until October 31, 2026. The company announced the extension on Friday, October 9, 2026, and insisted the offer does not amount to a return of fuel subsidy.
The discount was first rolled out on October 1 as an Independence Day promotion to mark Nigeria's 66th anniversary. It was originally meant to run from October 1 to October 7.
How The Discount Works
Under the promotion, customers get a N66 discount on every litre of petrol bought at participating NNPC Retail stations. The catch is payment: motorists must pay through the NNPC Fuel App to qualify.
The Chief Corporate Communications Officer, Andy Odeh, said the discount was designed to give relief to customers amid elevated global crude oil prices. The company said the move would cushion the impact of higher petrol prices on households and businesses as crude prices remain high over the conflict in the Middle East.
NNPC said the offer will now continue across its retail outlets nationwide until the end of October.
Not A Subsidy, NNPC Insists
The extension followed comments by the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Taiwo Oyedele, who said the discount was not a fuel subsidy. Oyedele explained that the initiative was funded from NNPC Retail's own margin rather than allocations from the Federation Account.
NNPC urged Nigerians to disregard interpretations suggesting the discount represented a restoration of the former fuel subsidy regime.
The company also clarified that the offer applies exclusively to NNPC Retail outlets. It does not set a uniform pump price for other fuel marketers, and it does not change the market-based pricing framework governing petroleum products in Nigeria.
NNPC added that it remains committed to reliable fuel supplies while operating on a commercially responsible basis. It pledged to provide clear information about the scope and duration of its customer initiatives so Nigerians can make informed purchasing decisions.
What It Means For Motorists
The extension comes as the Federal Government considers measures to ease the burden of high petrol prices on households, transport operators and businesses.
For motorists, the promotion offers a chance to save N66 per litre at participating NNPC Retail stations through October 31, provided they meet the payment requirements. But the savings are limited to NNPC's own outlets, so pump prices elsewhere remain unchanged.
NNPC retail outlets had earlier adjusted the pump price of Premium Motor Spirit across the country. A review of current prices showed the highest pump price in Gombe, followed by Akwa Ibom, with Nigerians paying more at NNPC outlets than at Dangote Refinery's partner stations.
