TCN Declares Seven-Hour Power Outage in Kogi, Edo and Ondo on September 15

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced a scheduled power outage of about seven hours across communities in Kogi, Edo and Ondo states. The outage is to allow its technical crew carry out annual preventive maintenance at the 330/132kV Ajaokuta Transmission Substation.
The maintenance is fixed for Tuesday, September 15, 2026, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Households, businesses and industrial customers supplied through the affected transmission facilities will be without grid electricity within that window.
What TCN plans to do at Ajaokuta
TCN said its engineers will conduct preventive maintenance on the 162MVA, 330/132kV power transformer, associated switchgear and other ancillary equipment at the substation. The company described the exercise as routine work meant to keep critical transmission equipment in good condition and cut the risk of unexpected faults.
“The Transmission Company of Nigeria, TCN, hereby informs the public that annual preventive maintenance has been scheduled at its 330/132kV Ajaokuta Transmission Substation on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, from 9am to 4pm,” the company said.
According to TCN, the exercise will temporarily stop the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) and the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) from supplying electricity to customers connected to the affected transmission facilities.
Areas and customers on the list
Communities expected to experience the outage include Ekirin, Omuo, Ibillo, Akoko, Ogala, Ikare, Magongo, Okene Town, Ayere, Kabba and surrounding communities.
Other affected locations are Okpella Town, Ososo, Uluoke, Iyora, Apana, Okpekpe, Arigidi, Ikare Town, Lampese, Igara and Oka, as well as neighbouring areas.
Major industrial customers on the list include BUA Cement Company, West African Fertiliser Company, Dibeks Milling Company, Edestein Company and Freedom Group Company.
What happens next
The planned interruption means households, businesses and industrial customers supplied through the affected facilities will have to run without grid power during the maintenance period. TCN's announcement gives residents and businesses in the listed areas time to arrange alternative electricity sources ahead of the work.
Power supply is expected to return once the maintenance exercise is completed and the transmission equipment is put back into service.
For businesses in Okene, Kabba, Okpella and the industrial clusters around Ajaokuta, the seven-hour gap is a reminder of how much production depends on the grid, and why operators in these corridors often keep backup generators on standby.
