FG opens free solar installation training in Lagos and Abeokuta, applications close September 18

The Federal Government has opened applications for a free solar photovoltaic installation training programme for Nigerians who want practical skills in renewable energy. The programme is organised by the FGN Power Company with Siemens Energy and the German development agency GIZ.
Applications close at 4pm on Friday, September 18, 2026. Training will hold at designated centres in Lagos and Abeokuta, Ogun State.
Who can apply
The organisers say the opportunity is not limited to people with technical experience in solar installation. Nigerians with practical experience and those without formal education or previous experience in the field are eligible.
Recent graduates with National Diploma, Higher National Diploma or undergraduate qualifications are also encouraged to apply. Young professionals working in related sectors, and Nigerians seeking careers in renewable energy, can apply as well.
Applicants must be available to attend the entire three-week programme physically. The training is conducted on-site, so attendance is not flexible.
What the programme covers
The three-week programme combines classroom instruction with practical training, technical site visits and competency assessments. Participants who complete it will receive certification from the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria, COREN.
Training and certification are free. Meals will be provided on training days.
Successful applicants will, however, arrange and pay for their own accommodation and transportation to and from the training centres for the duration of the programme.
How to apply
Interested Nigerians must complete the online Expression of Interest form before the 4pm deadline on September 18, 2026.
Applicants will provide their full names, gender, phone numbers, email addresses and preferred training location. They must also confirm they can attend the three-week programme physically.
The form asks for educational background, employment status, work experience and sector of employment. Applicants with formal educational qualifications will upload their latest CV, degree certificates and other relevant certificates.
The programme comes as interest in solar energy rises across Nigeria, driven by persistent electricity supply problems and rising energy costs. For young graduates, aspiring technicians and people trying to enter the renewable energy sector, it offers a route to recognised certification without paying training fees.
