DStv to launch five new streaming packages from September 2026, Sports tier at R399

By

DStv is set to restructure its streaming service in South Africa into five packages from September 17, 2026, following Canal+ takeover of MultiChoice. The details emerged after package names, prices and channel counts were accidentally published on DStv's website before being taken down.

New package lineup and pricing

The five packages are Starter, Select, Sports, Movies & Series and Premium. Starter will cost R99 per month and carry about 85 channels, while Select will go for R299 per month with around 100 channels. The Sports package is priced at R399 per month and will have roughly 115 channels, and Movies & Series will cost R500 per month with about 115 channels. Premium remains the top option at R799 per month with approximately 130 channels.

Sports content split

The standalone Sports package will carry Premier League and UEFA competitions, plus T20 cricket, local rugby, UFC and WWE. But Formula 1, MotoGP, Springboks matches, golf and ATP tennis will stay exclusive to the Premium tier. Subscribers interested mainly in South African domestic football may not need the Sports package, as the Premier Soccer League is expected to sit on the Select package.

Movies & Series tier details

The Movies & Series package will focus on films, series and general entertainment. M-Net, a channel long associated with DStv Premium, is expected to become available at this tier, along with kykNET and M Movies+.

What it means for Nigeria

MultiChoice Nigeria says its operations remain locally driven despite becoming part of CANAL+. Chief Executive Officer Kemi Omotosho said the company's leadership, strategy and day-to-day operations remain centred on Nigerian customers, employees, partners and the local creative industry. The reported package changes apply only to DStv's streaming service in South Africa, and customers using satellite decoders will not automatically shift to the new structure.
