By Aboki Forex —
The Nigerian stock market turned slightly bearish on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, as the NGX All-Share Index slipped 0.03% to close at 246,019.17 points, ending a four-session winning streak.

Market breadth stays positive despite big-cap losses
Even with the benchmark index in the red, market breadth was positive. A total of 34 equities advanced against 29 decliners, showing that buying interest remained broad even though gains were not enough to offset losses in key large-cap counters.
NASCON led the losers, falling from N195.00 to N175.50, down N19.50 or 10.00%. Beta Glass dropped from N562.80 to N506.60, losing N56.20 or 9.99%. Academy Press slipped from N6.15 to N5.55, shedding N0.60 or 9.76%. CWG declined from N21.40 to N19.40, losing N2.00 or 9.35%, while Learn Africa fell from N8.70 to N7.90, down N0.80 or 9.20%.

Access Holdings led the volume chart with 33.22 million shares valued at N1.03 billion. Stanbic IBTC traded 28.74 million shares worth N4.11 billion. Sterling Financial Holdings Company exchanged 19.61 million shares valued at N150.24 million. Chams Holding Company traded 18.56 million shares worth N71.58 million, while GTCO recorded 15.08 million shares valued at N2.01 billion.
In value terms, Stanbic IBTC recorded the highest traded value at N4.11 billion, followed by GTCO with N2.01 billion and Access Holdings with N1.03 billion.
What this means for the market
The marginal slip and lower volume suggest a cautious session, but the positive market breadth indicates that investor interest was not entirely absent. For traders and businesses watching the bourse, the mixed outing is a reminder that heavyweight stocks still drive the direction of the benchmark index.
