DStv subscribers may get new sports and entertainment packages in September

MultiChoice may be preparing changes for DStv subscribers across Africa this September, with leaked details showing possible new packages built around sports and entertainment. Lower DStv packages could get channel additions, while mid-tier and top-tier bouquets may also receive new channels.
According to screenshots of the DStv website that appeared online, MultiChoice is testing offerings called DStv Movies & Series and DStv Sports. The company has not officially confirmed the new packages.
What the leaked packages show
The reported DStv Movies & Series package is designed for subscribers interested in films, documentaries, lifestyle programmes and general entertainment. Leaked details say it would include BBC Earth, Studio Universal, Discovery Channel, kykNET and M Stars.
One big change could be the inclusion of M-Net on DStv channel 101. M-Net carries premium entertainment and current affairs, including the popular investigative programme. If this happens, entertainment-focused subscribers could access M-Net without paying for sports-heavy packages.
For sports lovers, the reported DStv Sports package would focus on live events. Leaked information says it would include the Premier League, UEFA Champions League, IPL, ICC cricket, SA20 cricket and South Africa's Currie Cup. The package is also expected to include UFC and at least one United Rugby Championship game per week.
What MultiChoice says
MultiChoice has declined to confirm the package changes. The company said it continually reviews its DStv products and package offerings to ensure customers receive value. It added that some customers may see changes in package names on certain platforms as part of ongoing product testing.
MultiChoice stressed there was no change to customers' current subscriptions or the content they receive. The company said that if changes are eventually made to channels, products or packages, affected customers would be informed directly and in good time.
What it means for Nigerian subscribers
For now, Nigerian subscribers should treat the leaked details as unconfirmed until MultiChoice makes an official announcement. If the reported structure is introduced, it could give sports fans and entertainment viewers more targeted options. But the biggest question is whether splitting sports and entertainment will lead to lower bills or simply different ways of paying for DStv.
The reported move comes as consumers demand more value from pay TV, with streaming platforms offering alternative ways to watch content. Subscription costs matter for Nigerian households, and giving customers more control over what they pay for could help DStv compete.
Legit.ng earlier reported that MultiChoice has confirmed four new SuperSport channels will go live on DStv from August 19, 2026. SuperSport Football Plus will carry premium football content, including selected UEFA Champions League fixtures.
