Dangote keeps LPG depot price at N950/kg, cheapest in market

By

Dangote Refinery held its liquefied petroleum gas depot price at N950 per kilogram on Monday, August 31, 2026, remaining the cheapest among all tracked suppliers. Only two depots changed prices between Friday, August 28 and Monday, August 31, while the rest stayed flat.

Depot price movements

Data from Petroleumprice.ng showed that A.Y.M Shafa cut its price by N5, from N1,055 to N1,050 per kilogram, a reduction of roughly 0.5%. PPMC raised its rate by N5, from N975 to N980 per kilogram.

Other depots did not move. Ardova and Navgas held at N975 per kilogram, Rain Oil remained at N990, and Matrix stayed at N1,050.

What this means for a cylinder

At Dangote's rate, a standard 12.5kg cylinder costs N11,875 at depot level, before transport, distribution fees, and retailer margins. At the highest depot price of N1,050 per kilogram, the same cylinder costs N13,125, a difference of N1,250.

The gap between the cheapest and most expensive depot prices is N100 per kilogram.

Retail prices still higher

News Agency of Nigeria reports that cooking gas currently sells for between N1,250 and N1,650 per kilogram in the Federal Capital Territory, depending on location and point of purchase. Major gas outlets and depots generally offer more competitive prices, while roadside vendors sell at higher rates.

At those retail prices, a 5kg cylinder costs between N6,250 and N8,250, while a 12.5kg cylinder sells for between N15,625 and N20,625.

Official data shows price pressure

The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) reported earlier that the average retail price for refilling a 5kg cylinder of cooking gas rose 13.73% month-on-month, from N7,655.73 in March 2026 to N8,706.93 in April 2026. Year-on-year, that was up 10.42% from N7,885.60 in April 2025.

For 12.5kg cylinders, the average refill price increased 13.89% month-on-month, from N19,652.83 in March 2026 to N22,382.20 in April 2026.

Dangote's unchanged depot price offers some relief for consumers and gas retailers who buy in bulk, but final prices still depend on distribution costs and where users buy.
