Chery Q electric hatchback lands in Nigeria with 400km range, fast charging

By

Carloha Nigeria, the official franchise holder and assembler of Chery vehicles in Nigeria, has introduced the Chery Q, a compact electric hatchback designed for Nigerian motorists. The car offers an estimated range of up to 400 kilometres, fast charging, and a suite of intelligent safety and connectivity features.

Design, space and comfort

Developed around the theme “Quest for Joy,” the Chery Q targets young professionals, families and urban drivers looking for a connected and environmentally friendly vehicle. Its exterior has earned the Red Dot Design Award and iF Design Award, featuring geometric styling, rounded LED lighting and a contemporary two-tone cabin.

Despite its compact look, the Chery Q has an 85 per cent space-efficiency ratio. It measures 4,195mm long with a 2,700mm wheelbase. The luggage compartment offers 375 litres of space, expandable to 1,450 litres. There is also a 70-litre front trunk and 38 storage compartments.

Technology and safety

Inside, the vehicle features a 15.6-inch high-definition touchscreen powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8155 processor. Other features include wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, intelligent voice control, 50W wireless charging, and remote vehicle management through a mobile application.

Safety is supported by a Level 2 Intelligent Driver Assistance System with more than 20 functions. These include Adaptive Cruise Control, Automatic Emergency Braking, Lane Keeping Assist, Blind Spot Detection, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Intelligent High Beam Control, a 540-degree panoramic camera, and Automated Parking Assist.

The Chery Q uses a rear-engine, rear-wheel-drive platform with independent suspension and balanced weight distribution. Electric Power Steering and One-Box Brake-by-Wire technology are designed to provide responsive handling, effective braking and improved energy recovery.

Battery and charging

For electric driving, the Chery Q has an estimated range of up to 400 kilometres under the NEDC testing standard. Its fast-charging system can charge the battery from 30 per cent to 80 per cent in 16.5 minutes. The car also supports Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) technology, allowing owners to power compatible electrical devices and equipment from the vehicle’s battery.

CarlohaCare 6-6-7 and market context

The vehicle comes with CarlohaCare 6-6-7, which provides a six-year warranty, six years of free servicing and a seven-day repair commitment. Customers are entitled to a courtesy car if repairs are not completed within seven days.

The debut comes as electric vehicles gain acceptance in Nigeria. The federal government recently introduced more electric vehicle charging stations to accelerate Nigeria’s shift to renewable energy. Innoson Vehicle Manufacturing Company also displayed the first electric vehicle made in the country at its Nnewi production facility, signalling growing competition in the sector.
