MultiChoice CEO clarifies CANAL+ takeover: DStv, GOtv pricing and content decisions stay in Nigeria
By Aboki Forex —
MultiChoice Nigeria CEO Kemi Omotosho says the company still makes its own pricing, content, and channel packaging decisions for DStv and GOtv, despite now operating under French media group CANAL+. She spoke to address concerns about how the new ownership structure affects Nigerian customers.
MultiChoice became part of CANAL+ in September 2025. CANAL+ is a France-based global media and entertainment company with operations in about 70 countries.
Local management still in charge
Omotosho said key decisions affecting Nigerian customers are still made by the local management team. Pricing, content development, channel packaging, and distribution strategies for DStv and GOtv are handled locally by executives who understand the Nigerian market.
She explained that being part of a global organisation gives MultiChoice Nigeria access to international expertise, technology, and ideas, which can then be adapted to local realities.
Thinking globally, acting locally
Omotosho described the company's approach as thinking globally while acting locally. She said the combination of CANAL+’s international scale and MultiChoice Nigeria’s local expertise would strengthen the company’s ability to navigate Nigeria’s economic challenges.
She noted the relationship is designed to create a two-way exchange. MultiChoice Nigeria benefits from innovations developed elsewhere, while also sharing successful Nigerian strategies with other markets.
“Since September 2025, MultiChoice has been part of CANAL+, a global media and entertainment group,” Omotosho said. She added that the company remains focused on its customers, employees, business partners, and the country’s creative industry.
The CEO also reaffirmed MultiChoice’s commitment to investing in Nigerian content, infrastructure, and local talent, stressing that the Nigerian market remains an important part of its long-term strategy.
For Nigerian subscribers, the clarification suggests DStv and GOtv pricing decisions will continue to reflect local economic conditions, not directives from France.
