Dangote Cuts Cooking Gas Depot Price to N950, Cheapest in Lagos and Warri
By Aboki Forex —
Dangote Refinery has reduced its depot price for Liquefied Petroleum Gas, commonly known as cooking gas, from N980 to N950 per kilogram. The N30 cut, a 3.1% drop, makes Dangote the cheapest depot among major gas suppliers quoting rates in Lagos and Warri.
At the new depot rate, filling a standard 12.5kg cylinder costs N11,875 before transport, distribution charges and retailer margins. The price data, released by Petroleumprice.ng on Friday, August 14, shows cooking gas depot rates in the two cities range between N950 and N1,050 per kilogram.
What other depots are charging
Ardova and Navgas in Lagos are both quoting N975 per kilogram. 11 PLC, Nipco and PPMC are selling at N980 per kilogram. Matrix in Warri has the highest depot price on the list at N1,050 per kilogram, which is N100 above Dangote's new rate.
The full depot price list is as follows: Dangote, Lagos, N950 per kilogram; Ardova, Lagos, N975 per kilogram; Navgas, Lagos, N975 per kilogram; 11 PLC, Lagos, N980 per kilogram; Nipco, Lagos, N980 per kilogram; PPMC, Lagos, N980 per kilogram; Matrix, Warri, N1,050 per kilogram.
What this means for consumers
The reduction at Dangote's depot could offer some relief to cooking gas marketers and households, provided lower depot rates hold and are passed on along the supply chain. However, prices at the retail level still depend heavily on location, distance from the depot, and how much individual retailers add to their selling price.
Nigerian households have been watching cooking gas prices closely amid broader concerns about the rising cost of energy and everyday essentials. Dangote's latest move adds a new reference point for the market, though its full impact on retail prices remains to be seen.
Government gas programme
In a related development, the federal government launched a new cooking gas programme to expand access to LPG and cut costs for ordinary Nigerians. Bayelsa State kicked off the rollout. Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas), Rt. Hon. Ekperikpe Ekpo, officially unveiled the National Grassroots LPG Programme in Yenagoa as part of the broader Decade of Gas Initiative. The scheme targets the transition of five million Nigerian households away from firewood and charcoal to LPG by 2030.
