Petrol prices drop again as MRS, NNPC and Lagos depots cut pump rates
By Aboki Forex —
Petrol prices have fallen again across Nigeria as filling stations and depot operators respond to fresh rate reductions from domestic refiners. MRS filling stations, supplied by Dangote Refinery, cut the pump price in Abuja to N1,210 per litre, while NNPC reduced prices in Lagos and Abuja.
Abuja and Lagos pump prices
MRS reduced its Abuja price from N1,260 to N1,210 per litre, a cut of N50. AA Rano also brought its Abuja price down by about N25 to around N1,275 per litre on Monday, August 10.
NNPC stations in Lagos now sell petrol at N1,205 per litre, down from N1,265, a drop of N60. In Abuja, NNPC cut its price by N15, from N1,295 to N1,280 per litre.
Lagos depot prices fall
Data from Petroleumprice.ng showed major Lagos depots have revised rates downward. MRS Tincan moved its depot price from N1,222 to N1,172 per litre. Pinnacle cut from N1,215 to N1,165.70. Aiteo went from N1,217 to N1,168.
NIPCO reduced from N1,218 to N1,168, while Integrated and African Terminal both moved from N1,218 to N1,169 per litre.
Diesel price jumps
Separately, the National Bureau of Statistics reported a sharp rise in the average retail price of Automotive Gas Oil, or diesel, in May 2026. The price climbed to N3,277.47 per litre, an 86.40% increase from N1,758.26 in May 2025. Month on month, diesel rose 32.44% from N2,474.69 per litre in April 2026.
What it means
The sustained decline in depot prices could push more filling stations to lower their pump rates as cheaper supplies become accessible to retailers. However, the extent of further price cuts may vary among retailers.
