Lagos Youth Climate Action Fund: How to Apply for $1,000-$5,000 Grants

By

The Lagos State Government has launched the Lagos Youth Climate Action Fund (YCAF) for youth-led environmental projects. Grants range from $1,000 to $5,000, and applicants must be aged 15 to 24.

Backed by Bloomberg Philanthropies, the programme targets young Nigerians with ideas for making Lagos cleaner, greener, and more climate-resilient. Successful applicants will receive microgrants to implement projects with measurable environmental impact.

Eligibility and Project Priorities

Applicants must be between 15 and 24 years old and belong to a youth-led organisation or group. Their proposed project must address environmental or climate-related challenges in Lagos through innovative and practical solutions.

The fund is looking for projects that align with key environmental priorities: climate action initiatives, environmental sustainability, community resilience, green innovation, and youth-led environmental solutions.

Mandatory Webinar Before Application

Interested participants must attend a compulsory pre-launch webinar before submitting applications. Organisers will explain eligibility requirements, funding guidelines, project expectations, and the application process.

Webinar date: Tuesday, August 4, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. Attendance is mandatory. To participate, register via the official registration link with your first name, last name, and email address. After the webinar, participants will be guided on preparing and submitting climate action proposals once the official application portal opens.

Separately, the Bosun Tijani Foundation has opened applications for the second cohort of its Generative AI Fellowship. The six-month programme pays each participant N50,000 every month and targets young Nigerians entering the AI industry. It offers two tracks: the AI Engineering track covers machine learning, model fine-tuning, cloud deployment with SageMaker and Docker, AI security, and agentic Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) systems.

What This Means for Nigerian Youth and Businesses

The initiative gives young Nigerians a direct route to fund practical environmental solutions. For Lagos businesses, the grants could support community-level projects that improve waste management, green spaces, and climate resilience, while creating opportunities for young entrepreneurs in the green economy.
