UK Expands Work Visa Sponsor List to 142,459 Employers, Opening New Doors for Nigerians

By

The United Kingdom's Home Office has updated its official Register of Licensed Sponsors, raising the total number of approved employer sponsors to 142,459. The updated list, published on July 17, 2026, covers employers authorised to issue Certificates of Sponsorship under both the Skilled Worker and Temporary Worker immigration routes.

For Nigerians seeking relocation to the UK, the wider register translates to a greater number of potential employers legally permitted to back a visa application. Newly listed organisations span healthcare, technology, hospitality, engineering, and retail sectors, where labour shortages remain significant.

What the Updated Register Means for Applicants

A Certificate of Sponsorship is a mandatory requirement for any foreign national applying for a UK work visa. Only organisations that have met the government's strict sponsorship criteria are permitted to appear on the list. To be eligible, applicants must receive a confirmed job offer from a licensed sponsor, obtain a Certificate of Sponsorship from that employer, work in a qualifying occupation, and satisfy the salary threshold and English language standards set by the Home Office.

Immigration professionals consistently advise prospective applicants to confirm an employer's presence on the official register before accepting any offer or paying recruitment fees. Only listed sponsors can lawfully issue the required documentation.

Newly Licensed Sponsors Across the UK

The latest update broadens the pool of employers able to hire from abroad. Newly licensed organisations operate across care services, restaurants, information technology firms, construction, retail, manufacturing, educational institutions, religious bodies, and property management companies throughout England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland.

Some of the newly listed sponsors include ALT Glasgow in Glasgow, Asian African Foods Ltd in London, BOLTWHIZ LIMITED in Dunfermline, Bossmans Retail Abergavenny Ltd in Abergavenny, and BRANOS OXFORD LTD T/A LILO in Oxford. Others include BRITANNIA BUSINESS CONSULTING LIMITED in London, Brooke Healthcare Ltd in Nottingham, BW Refrigeration & Air Conditioning Limited in Great Yarmouth, and CASA BAMBOO LTD T/A Pho Le Vietnamese Restaurant in Leicester.

The list also features CHURCHVIEW CARE LTD in Staines-upon-Thames, CORBY MUSLIM ASSOCIATION in Corby, CREATIVE CARE HOME LIMITED in Halifax, Eleven Hillrise Investments Ltd T/A Chez Lindsay in Richmond, Everest Kitchen Ltd T/A Gurkha Swindon in Swindon, F-Secure (UK) Limited in Gerrards Cross, and Fareni Lifecare Ltd in Essex. Others include GLOBAL FACILITY MANAGEMENT MCR LIMITED in Manchester, HAH Hospitality Limited T/A Indian Affair Ancoats in Manchester, Haverfordwest Central Mosque in Haverfordwest, and HH KITCHENS LTD Trading as Caprinos Pizza Heywood in Heywood.

What This Means for the Naira and Nigerian Job Seekers

The expansion of the UK sponsor list comes as the naira continues to face pressure in foreign exchange markets. For Nigerian professionals, securing a UK work visa through a licensed sponsor offers a pathway to earning in pounds sterling, which could provide a hedge against domestic currency volatility. The broader list also means more competition among UK employers for skilled Nigerian talent, potentially leading to better salary offers and relocation packages for successful applicants.
